The new kid on the block, Charlotte Free, is not only gorgeous, she's also a feminist. Love.
Meet Charlotte Free, the Los Angeles native shaking up the modelling world. Her angst-ridden 'tude, alt-cool style and relatively short height (by supermodel standards) have invoked comparisons to Kate Moss. She also sports the greatest crop of cotton-candy coloured locks since Nicki Minaj's wig.
The 19 year old was discovered while playing video games at her local arcade and has since walked for Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Jeremy Scott. She recently signed as the new face of Maybelline New York.
While she's celebrated for her looks, Charlotte's defining photo is a shot of her licking her defiantly hairy armpit. The freewheelin' feminist says, "It's ridiculous that women have to shave their armpits and legs every day. I don't have that time. I think it's asinine that men have got this standard that women should be perfectly shaven."
Dubbed "the feminist model", her commitment to women's rights goes beyond body hair. Charlotte has also spoken out about the predatory photographers who lurk backstage at catwalk shows. "I stand up for other girls in the industry. If I see someone taking pictures backstage, I will grab their camera, expose their film or delete all the photos," she says. "If you're taking photos of naked 16-year-old girls, you will not get away with it. It's paedophiliac."
And if this model flavour of the month suddenly goes stale? She's got some fall-back options. "I love science and I've always wanted to study botany," she says. Charlotte is also on record saying that she'd love to be in the circus flying like an acrobat. There's no doubt this free spirit will fly far.
What do our other favourite models do when they're not posing up a storm?
The Musicians: Abbey Lee Kershaw plays the tambourine in her man's band, Our Mountain, while Julia Nobis masters classical guitar, strumming renditions of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on YouTube. We'd love to see them jam with fellow model Hanne Gaby Odiele, who plays the djembe.
The Baker: A keen cook, Karlie Kloss is known for bringing homemade sweet treats to shoots. She even gave Alexander Wang a batch of peanut butter cookies at a fitting!
The Dancer: Canadian model Coco Rocha was scouted at an Irish dancing competition at the age of 14. Jean-Paul-Gautier later caught on to her hobby and got her to do a jig at his Scottish Highlands–inspired show.
