It can be mindless fun or completely life-changing. What happened the last time you got some?
"...did it with someone I didn't know"
"My friends and I stumbled across a weird electro pop-band in a dingy pub. It's not the sort of music I'm into at all, but there was something about the lead singer that kept me there. After they finished playing, I went up and introduced myself. I did feel like a bit of a groupie when one of my friends and I went back to his place with him and his mates, but I also felt like I was in charge of the situation.
At one stage he walked passed me and I grabbed him and started kissing him. He pushed me up against the wall and kissed me back, hard. When his friends left, we went into his room where, again, I took charge and we had sex the way I wanted it .
It was kind of liberating not knowing him; I didn't feel self-conscious at all. When I woke up in the morning, although I wasn't embarrassed or ashamed in any way, I wanted to get out of there. He walked me to the door, gave me a kiss and I left. No numbers were exchanged; it was a one-night stand, pure and simple and it was great!" Juliet, 26
"...got an STI"
"My boyfriend Nathan* and I had always had a pretty active sex life until we moved in together. People say that's normal so I didn't worry too much when the sex became less frequent. A few weeks ago we had sex and it was like old times, passionate and fun. I felt good that we still had that spark.
A couple of days later I noticed some weird discharge in my undies and it burned like hell when I went to the toilet. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with gonorrhoea. My doctor reassured me that it can lie dormant for years, but it didn't make me feel any better. We had both been tested at the start of our relationship and had come back clean so I confronted Nathan about cheating on me. He denies it but I'm still not sure what to believe." Emily*, 23
"...did it at my parents"
"I recently moved back in with my parents to save a bit of money. When my boyfriend stayed over for the first time, I was so scared that the bed would make a noise that we did it on the floor.
It was so fun and thrilling, because I felt like we were naughty teenagers. At one point my dad walked past my door and my boyfriend had to cover my mouth with his hand!" Maggie*, 25
"...cheated on my boyfriend"
"I met Paul* on my first day at a new job. We were working together on the same account and I quickly felt myself falling for him. I got the vibe that he was attracted to me too which would have been great, except that I had a boyfriend. I couldn't stop thinking about Paul for the next few months and even started imagining I was having sex with him when I was actually having sex with my boyfriend.
One night Paul and I shared a cab home after work drinks. I looked over at him and he was staring at me. The next thing we were all over each other and in that split second I knew I was going to go home with him. We went back to his apartment and he went down on me. My boyfriend did come to mind, but I felt I'd waited so long for this to happen that I just kept going. I have never come as hard as I did that night. A few weeks later I broke up with my boyfriend to be with Paul." Penelope*, 21
"...dislocated my hip"
"My boyfriend and I were rolling around and the next thing I knew, I heard a click and couldn't move my hip at all! I was in excruciating pain. Needless to say it killed the mood pretty quickly and left me walking funny for the next week. We laugh about it now, but at the time it wasn't so funny." Rosie, 26
"My long term partner and I had been trying for a baby for about six months and I knew I was in the fertile zone. Even so I felt a lot of love at the time and not at all like a sperm incubator! I knew I was pregnant when I walked past McDonald's on my way home from work one day and heaved at the smell.
Another dead giveaway was the expansion of my boobs into an E-cup bra! When I did the maths I worked out the exact time I fell pregnant, but I already had an inkling. I'm glad I know the day of conception; it makes it feel more special somehow." Lauren, 28
