the crush: not just for teens (anymore)

Compulsive Googling of the prey, followed by a jolt to the heart when new results upload. Frantic forwarding of the latest paparazzi pics to the entire office. Stalking their Twitter feed several times a day. Welcome to the modern world of the grown woman's celebrity crush.

Often regarded as a teen phenomenon, lately we've been spotting many of the symptoms in adult women — the most disturbing of which was crying uncontrollably while hugging a heart-shaped Justin Bieber pillow on morning television.

As much as we hate to admit it, the CLEO staffers are just as guilty of reverting back to our 13-year-old selves when it comes to certain male celebrities. Our office is wallpapered with photos of Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal smiles goofily from our computer screensavers, we fan out at film premieres and many an hour is spent breaking down the various attractive components of James Franco ("He's funny AND cute AND a literary genius!").

In these tough times, there's no such thing as being too old to have a crush. The Goz is our current dreamboat of choice, given his urban superhero status, penchant for puppies and ability to inspire deep thoughts (and memes).

When photos first surfaced of his hiking date with Eva Mendes, the CLEO office erupted in a heated debate about whether she was good enough for him. Sure, some may call us delusional, but like reading Mills & Boon on the toilet, celeb crushes offer a welcome escape from the everyday...
