We've done all the hard work for you and come up with the top five spots to meet hot boys in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Hamilton.

Auckland

Globe Bar
Located just underneath a popular backpackers hostel, this flash trash palace is brimming with foreign men and guys on their stag nights. We don't recommend hitting on the future groom, but he's bound to have some cute mates. Globe also holds heaps of fun events, such as Wild On. It's on every Wednesday and features cheap drinks, a DJ and a singles pool competition.

Khuja Lounge
Khuja Lounge is a well-kept secret in the Auckland clubbing scene. That's because it's a live music venue – and probably one of the best to score if you dig hot musician boys. They have live bands from Thursday through to Saturday so it's a good place to check out some up-and-coming young talent as well.

Foodtown Grey Lynn
Many a local celebrity has been spotted shopping for their bread and pasta here, including Shorty St stars and presenter John Campbell. Imagine the story you could tell your grandkids about meeting your hubby in the vegetable aisle between the carrots and the cucumbers!

Sawadee Thai restaurant
Any restaurant that has Josh Hartnett ordering takeaway red curry gets our vote. That's right — Josh Hartnett the Hollywood star has been to this restaurant. There are always lots of metrosexual men dining here, as you'd expect in the Ponsonby area. Check out the bar area at the back &151; it's good for striking up a conversation with random strangers.

Auckland University
This is the place to meet smart and hot university boys around Auckland if you have the patience to lurk! Around exam time (usually May and October) is good to schedule in your boy-watching. Also the university bar, Shadows, has cheapish alcohol and food. The most successful place for snagging a hot intellectual man is probably the engineering department — where the ratio of males to females is 9:1.

Hamilton

The Outback Pub
We have it on good authority that this bar is usually chocka with drunken young men after a good time. The queues can go right through to the main road on busy nights. Outback plays pop music but has a nice, fun atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

The Loft
This bar has a really cheap door charge, and there's always a DJ playing house music. CLEO has it on good authority that there are some really hot boys here – our spies say the crowd is a good mix of more sophisticated young men a step up in maturity from patrons of the Outback.

The Gallaghers Balloomin Madness Street Parade
Anything with a name like this is bound to bring together some hot and daring young men. It's part of the Balloons Over Waikato Festival and is a bit like Hamilton's version of Mardi Gras, so put your party hats on and prepare for some adventure and excitement! It's on April 13 and is free to attend.

The Pink Floyd Experience 10th Anniversary Tour
Hot rocker boys? Yes please! The Pink Floyd Experience is a tribute band and promises a show that will both "stimulate and arouse" their audience. It is on May 16 at the Founders Theatre. As a bonus, there may be some moody actor types hanging around too.

Waikato University
A recent Gillette survey found the Waikato region to have the most men who shaved their groin areas — more than men in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin combined! Those are pretty whopping stats and we reckon the majority of these boys can be found here in Waikato University. The university also has a long tradition of excelling at sporting events and wherever there's rugby, there will be boys.

Wellington

Shooters
Calling itself the largest bar in Wellington, Shooters boasts 3 floors of bars and entertainment. It hosts a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights starting from 9pm, and also has a pokies area and pool tables. Young, hot men are seen here every weekend and your chances of scoring are probably upped if you can beat them at pool — so polish up those stick-handling skills!

The Cake Tin
No, it's not the name of some yummy desert cocktail — The Cake Tin is Wellington's Westpac stadium. So you will find not only hot rugby boys, but also the people that support them. Brush up on your sports lingo and you might be able to reel yourself one of these hotties. The best time to go is during one of the big rugby matches, which usually involve the Hurricanes.

Cuba Mall
If you want hot boys with an alternative flair, this is the place to visit. It's one of Wellington's oldest streets and you can find lots of cool little shops too. So it won't be hard to fit in a bit of boy-watching in between foraging in op shops or getting a coffee.

Massey University Wellington
Located where the old museum used to be in Brooklyn, this is a hidden gem in terms of moody arty boys. The Wellington campus is for creative types and has established itself as a centre for study and research. The New Zealand School of Music is also here so if you like hot muso boys, look no further!

Contact Energy Triathlon Series
Triathlons always seem to attract lots of corporate types wanting to seem more edgy and cool. This series is held on March 31, and you can enter as long as you're over 18. So grab your mates and who knows, you might just pick yourself up a sweaty runner!

Christchurch

Coyote Street Bar
Known as the place to meet Christchurch's "beautiful people", this bar is one of many in the strip. Coyote specializes in dance music so don't go if you're not a fan of house tunes or DJs. The bar is done up to look like a hacienda and offers excellent food during the daytime.

Christchurch Gondola
CLEO reckons this is the place to pick up hot foreign boys with accents. It's just 15 minutes away from downtown Christchurch and the bonus being you will get a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie who's bound to be great in bed!

Jade Stadium
Daniel Carter's from Christchurch, so if you are seeking great looking guys with hot bods that are mad about rugby, this is the place to score. And you might be lucky and catch Dan playing in a Crusaders game — it's his home team!

Cashel Mall
Cashel Mall is actually more like a street as it's open-air. You will find many trendy boys cruising the cafes and stores looking bored and bohemian. If you want to check out fine looking male specimens without looking too obvious, Ballantynes (a specialist department store) is a good place to hang out.

The Avon
This is a beautiful river that runs through central Christchurch and also the perfect spot to watch out for gorgeous boys on their way to work. You will find multiple varieties from suits to more laidback sporty types. You can also punt down the river for a small fee and drink in the sights at a leisurely pace.Dunedin Otago University
We couldn't possibly miss out this haven for hot student boys. Dunedin is known as a student town and these boys know how to party! The university is also famed for its medical school, so if you are after a cute stethoscope-wearing guy, look no further. Doctors and nurses anyone?

George St
The main street of Dunedin is full of cheap but still trendy cafes and ethnic restaurants that cater to the student pocket. You will find many, many boys here especially during the peak hours of lunchtime and dinnertime. Be adventurous and order something exotic, it's a good conversation starter with the cute guy next to you!

The Garden Taverns
Also known as "Gardies" to the local student population, this is a pickup joint for those whose taste runs to Speights-drinking young men. Girls who want more sophisticated boys may have to go elsewhere as this is definitely not the place to venture if you want men with money.

Any rugby match

Dunedin-ites are crazy about rugby and where there's a whiff of a match, boys are bound to follow. So wear the Otago team colours proudly and you might impress some local men!

Carisbrook Stadium
This is a world-class stadium that doesn't just host sports matches (the All Blacks have had their best records here), but also music events and private functions.
