You could go overseas for your holiday this year ... or you could stay at home and have the perfect 'staycation'! Make the most of your time off with these home-holiday hints.
Let yourself be lazy ... all day long
Take a relaxed Sunday brunch and don't go home head to the beach or markets, do some shopping, indulge a late lunch then head to a bar for cocktails at 5pm. Don't bother dressing up, just throw on an easy summer dress and you're done.
Make time for a bunch of old friends you haven't seen in awhile
Nothing brightens up a day more than familiar faces, silly gossip and a good old fashioned belly laugh.
Give your house a makeover
Buy new sheets, some scented candles and a print for your wall. If you're low on cash, scout your local op shop for some shabby chic bargains.
Hit the outlet stores for some serious style-hunting
Find out where the factory outlets are in your city, take a friend and peruse them all day long. In the evening, dress up and hit the town in your new steals.
Have a homemade spa weekend
Make your own rejuvenating facemask by mixing avocado and honey, or egg-white and lemon for a skin firming facial. Paint your toenails, put a treatment in your hair, whack a chick flick on the tv and chill.
Have a dinner party, Masterchef style
Challenge your friends to a themed cook-off (think Japanese, seafood or Mexican) and see who has the best skills in the kitchen. Add some sake, wine or sangria and tuck in to everything at the end.
Explore a completely new part of your town
Open a map book (or hit up Google Map), pick somewhere you've never been to before and head there. Go for neighbourhoods with a recent migrant history and try the 'local' cuisine. The best Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese or Indian food in town can usually be found in the suburbs.
Revamp your look
Ditch the jeans and t-shirt and go for a totally new style. Think about which celebs you love and copy their look. Go glam like Dita von Teese, edgy-chic like Alexa Chung or urban princess like Rihanna.
Get some culture
when was the last time you went to the opera, theatre or ballet? Grab some last minute tickets for cheap and dress up to the nines.
Pitch a tent in your living room
Take some inspiration from your younger cousins and set up a campsite on the floor. Take a picnic, stretch out, read a book or snuggle up with your favourite boy.
