Topshop's Shakespearean spelling error

We love how high-street retailers keep giving us everything we want before we even know we want it, but maybe this fast fashion cycle needs to slow down a bit...

Case in point: Topshop's misspelling of Shakespeare's name on a Tee and Cake T-shirt, which reads, "Romeo Romeo, Wherefore art thou Romeo? – Shakespere."

Bloggers and shoppers on the Topshop website were quick to point out the mistake, with one online shopper posting, "Can the people who made this T-shirt spell? Glaring mistake – can you spot it? Yes – That’s right – they've spelt SHAKESPEARE wrong ... Ouch."

Ouch indeed.

To be fair, Shakespeare scholars agree that his name was spelled a few different ways.

Apparently spelling was a little more flexible then – and so is Topshop.

The company has withdrawn the item from the website and replaced it with a very on-trend cropped tee with the same saying – minus the attribution.
