According to new research, women love a cheesy chat-up line because it shows the man has a sense of humour. Lines like, "Did it hurt when you fell out of heaven?" and, "Is it hot in here or is it just you?" have proved to be winners with women because researchers found ladies are more likely to fall for a man if he breaks the ice with a light-hearted one-liner.
Researchers at OnePoll, which questioned 4000 adults, found that 59 percent of women secretly like it when a man uses a funny chat-up line, and three-quarters of those polled said they would be receptive if the line was delivered with a smile.
They also found that seven out of 10 women like being chatted up while out with their friends because it boosts their confidence.
''Women like a guy with a sense of humour and a cheesy chat-up line is a good way of displaying that," a spokesperson for OnePoll said in a media release.
''To fire off a good chat-up line at a pretty girl, the man will have to be pretty confident, too, and women like confident men."
But not all lines are guaranteed to get the girl. Lines such as, "Do you have a map? Because I keep getting lost in your eyes", were deemed over-the-top and likely to leave the man with egg on his face.
So to all you guys out there, you'd better start practising your one-liners. But remember, there's a fine line between being funny and being cringe-worthy, so make sure you get it right!
